They all start doing a drumroll, quiet at first, building to a crescendo that is equal parts exhilarating and terrifying. Once you think you can’t bear the noise any longer, they all stop in the same instant, part like the Red Sea, and a baby walks through the crowd. The baby is much more sure-footed than you would expect. He pauses in front of you, demanding your attention, and utters a name with articulation far beyond his months-- his voice resonating as if it was spoken through a microphone.
